Smallville Season 11 #38

Smallville - Season 11 038 (2013) (Digital) (K6 of Ultron-Empire) 00Haunted: Ollie calls a press conference, much like the one set up by Martha Kent in her pursuit to stop the vigilante registration act, where his trap is set to have Chloe shoot Clark Luther. After revealing that meteor rock “harms” Ultraman, he also tells the crowd before him that Clark Luther is in fact Ultraman.

Smallville - Season 11 038 Ollie’s press conference is interrupted by the stage shattering landing by Ultraman, he grabs Ollie who mouths to Chloe to take the shot. Failing to act, Ultraman snaps Ollie’s neck. Here and now on Earth 1, Chloe is clearly upset about the relived memory. None the less, duty calls and she says she has a fix on Impulse. He seems to be everywhere, but in actuality, he’s running the globe, and passing through the speed storms collecting speed as he goes. In the outskirts of Las Vegas, the people Superman saved question what their supposed to do, as the ground begins to shake. in the city of Las Vegas, Superman moves in to do a haymaker, which he hits but no matter what he does, the speed demon seems to just come back as fast as he can move. Getting the upper hand on Superman he seems to be ready to deal the “death” blow when impulse arrives…  to be continued…

We’ve seen this before

Smallville - Season 11 038

Brian Miller almost seems to drop the ball with the Earth 2 story, but then he offs Ollie, which is a little unexpected. However, he writes a much better story when it comes to the Impulse side of things. This had that epic mid show, right at the top of its climax commercial feeling to it by issues end. I’m curious to see where he goes with the other figures given that he’s building/tapping into the “Speed Force”. As far as written action scene’s go, whatever he suggested to Jimenez, THIS WAS GREAT. Had a lot of what you’d like to see in a comic and if the budget was allowed, would be seen on the show (But we all know that wouldn’t happen)

As I said, Jimenez did an amazing job this issue. The placement of characters combined with his anime like style was just nothing short of impressive in this issue. I’d welcome him back on the book in a heartbeat. Hell I’d even welcome him on a Marvel book (either an ultimate title or a spider-man story out of continuity). The only flaw is when he does a wide shot of characters which then look small (so maybe we could call it a zoomed out shot), for obvious reasons they just look like they were done by a child. However, the more standard shots are worth the money!

Easily the best drawn scene in this chapter losts of intensity and very clear depiction of the anime style I've been in love with for this arc
