Riddick: Movie Review

This may end up being my shortest review.

Dir: David Twohy Writers: David Twohy, Oliver Butcher, Stephen Cornwel
Run Time: 118m

You ever watch something and say you know the story may suck but you might still be entertained? Yes that didn’t happen here. When I saw the trailer all I could think was this man is going to kill people with cups and what not. Had it not been for my best friend I would have skipped this entirely. But as always I expected nothing from it and got exactly what I expected. How movies like this get produced, but a sequel to Dredd can’t be made, is beyond me.

First let’s touch the acting. TERRIBLE. JUST DOWN RIGHT DISRESPECTFUL. Vinny isn’t the world’s greatest actor in any way. He’s an action star that can be (very) believable in an emotional dramatic scene. I will give him credit that he tried. You can tell early on he tried. Out of the three movies (this one being the longest one I’ve watched) I’d say this might be his best outing but don’t quote me. But in terms of quality… It stops there. This isn’t fast and furious, he can’t help keep this film alive if he tried, solo anyway. He does try though. Then you have Keri Hilson. Most useless pretty face of all time in any movie ever made. Then you have, what I’d assume is the main antagonist in Jordi Mollà. Worst acting I’ve seen all year, and that includes the efforts in Kick-Ass 2. Maybe it was his accent but every word he said came off dryer than Ashy Larry’s lips. Honestly as far as acting goes, expect nothing if you don’t want to heed my warnings and see this garbage.

Technically, it’s a darn good looking movie. The mix use of set, possible on location filming and green screen was pretty seamless. That is a saving grace for the motion picture but not enough to enjoy it. What it makes up in the cinematography, it lacks in rendered CGI. As far as big budget movies go that require CGI, I didn’t expect to see so much glitches in rendered motion. As a whole it came off as a poorly done big budget student film… Sort of like “In Time” with Justin Timberlake.

I hate this movie.

The story never seemed to get going, and early on it was such a drag. Literally. It put me to sleep about mid way and it felt like an episode of Passions. Nothing happened. They were in the same predicament for the longest time. The story crawls so slowly that you just want to cry. The person snoring behind me had money well spent if you asked me vs me tying to be awake.

Bottom line: it’s the worst movie of the fall season or end of summer season. Why this movie was made I don’t know. If you happen to see it please slap yourself for wasting your time and hard earned money/scene points. Though this is a great make out film, if you’re into that during movies. Oh, and if your Howard Walowitz. You might get a little happy at one point.

Ratings for all movies will now be out of ten

  • Overall rating of the movie: 1 out of 10,
  • Cinematography: 3 out of 10,
  • Editing: 2 out of 10,
  • Audio: 7 out of 10,
  • Acting: 1 out of 10 (1 being that vin Diesel did all he could),
  • Theatres or wait for the blu-ray? SKIP IT

  1. I actually enjoyed the film as well, wasn’t great, but fun. But definitely not something to make you think . . . I always tell myself that’s what non-fiction’s for, rather than the cinema.
